There is a tale to be told

I hate going to see movies in the theatre.
But Kirsten wanted to go see X3, so I went. But we had a plan. Because I hate sitting though the ads so much, Kirsten would bring her book and I would bring my DS. Then, when the stupid ads play (like the mandatory lame one that tries to make you feel bad for piracy), we would retreat in a world of our own. A world without ads. Then, when the movie actually started, we could watch the movie. And only the movie.
This was the plan.
So they make us line up for half an hour. We get our seats. Its packed. The ads start. I whip out my DS. The evil can't get to me. All is well until...
*tap* *tap*
"Can you turn that off?" said the movie monkey.
This pissed me off of course. And 2 factors made this worse:
1: I just got through a really shitty part in the game. I have to get through that part again.
2: The game I was playing was advertised in their ad barrage.
So I was resigned to having to watch more ads before my movie. Wonderful. We were 20 minutes in, and still a bunch more stupid ads to come.
Then Kirsten leaned over and said some sweet sweet words to me:
"Do you wanna walk out?" she said.
"Fuck yeah!" I said.
And we did. Apparently the official story was that someone was bothered by the light DS screen put off during the ads. Yup. That was their story. Hmmm...

Yeah. More likely that monkey boy couldn't diffenciate a DS from his own louse-ridden ass and thought it was a camera. And then the lame cover story.
So, I don't I'll be going back. Ever.
Oh yes, and comic.
Update: COMIC!

Hey can't you just close the clamshell lid of the DS and it automatically goes into suspend mode???!!! Come on man, tell me that you know about that feature? You don't have to "turn it off", just close it.

I know, but I was so shocked that someone told me to turn it off that I did (not thinking).

Woo-hoo! Points for me!
9:43 PM
so - you paid for the movie, watched some ads, then left?
seems to me that the best way to get revenge would be to sit at the back fo of the theatre, and urinate on the floor, making it slide all the way down past people's feet.
I can sympathize - I haven't had a good theatre experience since I left Canada.
and the piracy ads? Get the fuck out of here. We paid for the movie already! Aren't we the ones NOT pirating?

I never was able to finish Maniac Mansion, but after checking out your remake link, and the related walkthrough, I understand how close I was.
I just never got the contract to the green tentacle! Oh well...
Was the ending worth it?

Thanks for the props Cibbuano!
We do have a more artsy theatre (or cinema) where I've seen had a few good experiences. Of course, they have a pub inside, you can bring your booze in, and there's no ads for the movies!
It can be done right, which is why I hate to see it done so wrong.

Yeah, theatres are generally annoying. I would have at least given the guy a bit of hassle. I could see how the DS could be mistaken for a camera, though.

one good thing about movies in Sydney: At Dendy, which is a theatre where you can see extra-fine movies, not hollywood remake crap, you can have wine and beer in the theatre...
I understand it's the same in the UK?

Yo I'm in Winchester dude.

I would be Beaver said his parents are in town and you're going to France?
I'm in Winchester until Saturday morning when I leave back to London. How far is it to Cambridge from here?
I'm interested as long as I can get back to work the next day or unless we can meet Friday...
11:53 PM
Ouch. 3 hours by train. Maybe this isn't such a good idea...
